Item Description

WINE- This rare 3L bottle of 2004 Hourglass Cabernet Sauvignon merited 94 points from both Robert Parker and Stephen Tanzer. It is 100% Cabernet from the famed Hourglass vineyard in St. Helena, one of only six 3L bottles from the 2004 vintage, never sold at retail. In fact, since the winery has never sold a bottle larger than a magnum, there is an unusually high interest in their large format bottles.

Purchased by Jeff and Carolyn Smith in 1992, the four-acre Hourglass Vineyard, which lies north of St. Helena, near Grace Family, Vineyard 29 and Colgin's Tychson Hill, is uniquely situated to provide both hillside and valley floor microclimates. The vineyard is located at the narrowest section of Napa Valley in what is essentially the "pinch" of the hourglass-shaped Valley. The wines, which are made by renowned winemaker Bob Foley, who also makes Pride, Robert Foley, Switchback Ridge, School House and others, show his style of balanced tannic structure, deep fruit concentration and a long velvety finish. The vintages of 1997 - 2001 all received a series of wine critic ratings, all above 90 points. The Hourglass Cabernets show a seamless balance of fruit concentration with the elegance of more subtle nuances driven by its terroir, notes of licorice, mint, earth, coffee, cassis, pomegranate and toffee. Bob Foley describes Hourglass as "more Margaux, feminine and complex."
