Item Description

WINE- Old hat but still true: wines are made in the vineyard. Dutton-Goldfield believes the greatest quality factor in the production of Pinot Noir is the choice of vineyards. The Duttons, Russian River Valley winegrowers, were among the first to plant Pinot Noir in the coolest parts of the region, where most of the fruit was previously used solely for sparkling wine. By carefully choosing the best clones for each site, than planting and tending each vineyard based on its micro-climate and needs, they are able to harvest fruit that has come to be known as among the highest in quality. Steve Dutton, in partnership with Dan Goldfield, says "we're passionate about Pinot, and produce several each year, depending on what strikes our fancy in barrel." Regarding bottling their single vineyard wines, Steve Dutton says the wine not only has to be wonderful but must really express the personality of its home.

Dutton-Goldfield regularly garners accolades for the winery itself as well as for their wines. They were named a Top 100 Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirits Magazine for 2004, 2005 and 2006 and several of their recently-released 2005 vintage wines have scored 90 and above. They are renowned for making unique wines wines that display the brightness of fruit, complexity, structure and balance, in very limited quantities from specially selected small vineyards in a cool, California coastal valley.
