Item Description

WINE- "John Kongsgaard is in search of the Holy Grail and these are among the most interesting, naturally made wines one will find on Planet Earth," says Robert Parker. The core of John and his wife, Maggy's endeavor is the 10-acre vineyard they planted in the late 1970s on a rocky hilltop in southern Napa Valley which has belonged to the Kongsgaard family since the 1920s. They also make wine from vineyards in the Napa Carneros and near St. Helena. Their limited-production wines are powerful and graceful, exhibiting high intensity expressions of vineyard and variety. The Judge Napa Valley, made entirely from the old family Chardonnay vineyard, a vine-by-vine selection, is a tribute to John's late father, who was the judge in Napa County. Their Syrah, derived from Lee Hudson's ranch in Napa Carneros, is referred to by Robert Parker as "one of the most idiosyncratic and distinctive Syrahs from California." "The Judge" Chardonnay from 2004 was given 98-100 points by Robert Parker.
