WINE- Finding a Kistler wine is almost as challenging as the wines themselves, but Kistler deserves the effort, says author Matt Kramer. Few small wineries are as dedicated to vineyard-designated wines as Kistler, located high in the Mayacamas Mountains above Sonoma Valley. Since its founding in 1978, Kistler has emerged as one of California's most impressive sources for Chardonnay and, more recently, Pinot Noir. Winemaker Steve Kistler and Business Manager, Mark Bixler, are dedicated to using single-vineyard sources to develop the classic flavors and aromas of Chardonnay and produce Pinot Noirs of focused fruit. This lot is a complete set of futures of all the Kistler single vineyard and special bottling Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. As such, these wines will be shipped in 2008 when Kistler releases their 2006 wines. Buying this 24 bottle lot is a wise investment because it gives you a jump on acquiring the highly-sought-after Kistler wines before they are all sold out. Robert Parker believes that Kistler Vineyards is the pinnacle of California quality, turning out prodigious wines. For the 2005 vintage, Parker gave the McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay 93-95 points, 94-96 points to the Dutton Ranch Chardonnay, 94-96 points for the Chardonnay from Durell Vineyard and 93-95 for the Kistler Vineyard Pinot Noir. Kistler Vineyards was recently featured in The World's Greatest Wine Estates: A Modern Perspective by Robert Parker. In the book, Parker said that Kistler had experienced great vintages every year since 1999 for both their Chardonnays and their Pinot Noirs.

Wines will ship to the winning bidder as they're released, which will be in Fall 08 and Spring 09: Fall 08: Stone Flat, McCrea, Dutton, Durell, KV Pinot Noir. Spring 09: KV Chardonnay, Vine Hill, Hyde, Hudson, Cuvee Cathleen, Cuvee Pinot Noirs. [Release dates are somewhat tentative]. Recipient must be 21 years of age or older.
