Item Description

LIFESTYLE, CA- Carter Cellars produces small vintages with outstanding fruit crafted by two of the best current talents in winemaking, Nils Venge and Jeff Fontanella. Enjoy a one-night stay in Carter Cottage and a Discovery dinner for two with a tasting of the new Envy wines. Then receive a magnum of Carter Cellars 2005 Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, upon its release. The wine, exceptional in barrel, grown in the low-yield vineyard in Napa's famous Oakville Cabernet district, showcases Beckstoffer fruit from the famous original To-Kalon Vineyard. The 2003 Cabernet from this vineyard was rated 91 by Wine Spectator and 9.5 from Vinography. The 2001 Cabernet scored 95 points from Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. This wine is dense, rich and powerful, with intense, pure and ripe Cabernet fruit with layers of plum, currant, olive, herb, sage, wild berry and black cherry, nuanced with nuts and flowers. Tannins are velvety and the finish is very long.

Carter Cellars Owner/Proprietor, Mark Carter and his wife, constructed a three-story Victorian home in Eureka which they turned into a highly successful inn, The Carter House, later adding a series of cottages attached to the house and the Carter Hotel across the street and Restaurant 301 in said hotel. Along the way, the Carters accumulated an amazing wine cellar and they began holding winemaker dinners and met some famous names from Napa. Carter Cellars came about with the help of some renowned winemakers, including Fred Schrader, Dan Duckhorn and Nils Venge and in 1998, Carter and Venge made the first Carter Cabernet. Nils Venge has the distinction of being the first American winemaker ever to receive 100 points from Robert Parker.

Now Carter and Venge are partners in a new venture known as Envy Wines, purchasing the former Calistoga Cellars wine operation and vineyards. Their very recent inaugural release was 1,500 cases but plans call for production to climb to 5,000 cases and the new operation will be home as well to Carter's own wines and another Venge brand, Vine Haven. Envy's wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Sauvignon Blanc and Bee Bee's blend (Cabernet, Merlot and Petite Sirah).
