In this 4 hour class, Judith will demonstrate the techniques she employs to create her breathtaking, finely detailed paintings on silk. Judith will also discuss the art of batik, another painting method she has mastered, and she will answer students' questions about her work.
About Judith Steele Goetemann
Working in the media of batik and silk dye painting Judith has achieved national recognition. Her first exhibition was held at the Marshall Field Gallery in Chicago and sold out during the opening reception. The next year she was featured in an international Batik show at the same gallery. The American Crafts Council juried her work into their Rhinebeck NY Expositions for three years. This exposure led to affiliations with the B.F.M. and Verbena Galleries in New York, a show at the New York Public Library and an invitation to exhibit at the Winter Olympics in Munich, Germany. An example of her batik work was used by the Metropolitan Museum in its publication Encyclopedia of Textiles. Judith has been featured in the Boston Globe Magazine and American Artist Magazine and on Norm Thompson’s national PBS program, Adventures in Gardening. She is listed in the Marquis Who’s Who in America, American Women and in the World.
Judith is an active member of the Rocky Neck Art Colony, the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Cape Ann Artisans, and the Rockport Art Association. The Rockport Art Association recently honored her with Gold Medal / Best of Show awards in two juried exhibitions.
