Item Description

This oil painting by Ruth C. Hagstrom of a World War I Veteran measures 16x20'' and comes ready-to-hang in a traditional gold frame.

"Ruth C. Hagstrom began painting in the 1930''s. She attended the Massachusetts School of Art, now the Massachusetts College of Art. She continued classes in West Palm Beach and St. Augustine, Florida at Elliot O''Hara''s Florida School and classes with William McNulty in the Cape Ann Summer School.

Mrs. Hagstrom taught art classes for Gloucester High School and Endicott College in Beverly, Mass. She also taught portrait classes for more than thirty years in her home in Gloucester, Mass. Mrs. Hagstrom is an emeritus member of the Rockport Art Association, having joined in 1942. She is a fellow member of the American Artists Professional League in New York City, an achieved the status of fellow member by participating in three grand national exhibitions. She won a gold medal in one of those exhibitions as well as numerous other awards.

Mrs. Hagstrom is also a member of North Shore Arts Association of Gloucester, The Copley Society, Springfield Society of Academic Artists and the Cape Ann watercolor painters. She has been a former member of many organizations including St. Augustine, Florida and Ft. Lauderdale Art Association and Broward County Florida. Mrs. Hagstrom has won two Gold Medals for figure paintings at the North Shore Arts Association of Gloucester and Rockport Art Association.

She painted for over 60 years in oil, watercolor and mixed media and has over thirty years of teaching experience. She will be 95 years old in October, 2001, and continues to sketch and paint. Her portraits, figure drawings, landscapes, and still lifes have a wonderful degree of softness and color." (reference, www.askart.com)
