Grounds

Visitors enter the museum through the new Visitors and Archives Center. There is plenty of paved parking. Inside is the ticket counter, Museum Book Store, and many interesting historic displays in Cameron Hall.

Volunteers run the streetcars and interurbans each operating day. You board at the platforms near the Visitors Center and can ride the streetcars as often as you wish. The grounds of the Western Railway Museum include two large car houses with street cars you can stroll through. The large, shaded picnic grounds are perfect for family and group outings.

The popular Depot Cafe in the new Visitors Center offers hot dogs, ice cream, hot and cold beverages, and other snack items. Gas, restaurant, and lodging are available in nearby Suisun, Fairfield and Rio Vista.

Electric Operations

Presently the Museum offers visitors a mile long "streetcar loop" ride on the grounds and an interurban ride over the re-electrified portion of the former SN interurban mainline to Gum Grove Station. Electric operations are offered to the public during all museum operating hours.

Excursions

From time to time the Bay Area Electric Railroad Association sponsors field trips to visit area railways, trace the routes of long gone operations, and mainline railroad trips to points such as Reno. Primarily a service for members, these trips are also open to others who may be interested. For more information, see the Calendar of Events.
