Item Description
The lucky winner of this auction item will spend a day of plein air painting on scenic Cape Ann with prestigious artist and RAA member John S. Caggiano. The winner may bring one friend along, if desired, and will spend the day receiving highly individualized critique, instruction, and demonstrations on plein air painting from with this extremely knowledgable, personable, and friendly artist.
John Caggiano was born in Brooklyn and studied pre-engineering at Brooklyn Technical High School. He received a BA from Brooklyn College and an MFA from Pratt Institute, both with honors. His education was supplemented by courses at The Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Studio & Forum of Stage Design in New York.
In Rockport since 1980, John is essentially a plein air painter. He draws inspiration from the unique light and changing seasons of New England, as well as from his travels both here and abroad. He utilizes brush and palette knife in his colorful Impressionistic Realism style of painting.“Color is the lifeblood of a painting. Nothing stimulates more than its pleasing harmony, whether strongly applied or toned and tranquil.”
Memberships include North Shore Arts, Academic Artists, and Rockport Art Association where he is a past president and has served on the Board of Governors since 1990. Both he and his award-winning paintings have appeared on television in the United States and Europe. His art has also been featured in and graced the covers of numerous books, magazines and newspapers. He is represented worldwide in many private and corporate collections, as well as in galleries across the country.
Caggiano has maintained a gallery and a studio on Bearskin Neck in Rockport for the last twenty-five years.
