Item Description

The dish I prepared was a reflection of the season (as is all my cooking), and perhaps more specifically, I wanted to pair a meaty fish (monkfish) with a salty pork. Aside from that, my inpiration for this dish is being able to contribute to a good cause. I have been a supporter of City Harvest for many years, and am happy to contribute to this auction with this dish and photograph. - Chef Tom Colicchio.

This is an original piece from the limited edition series, Photography for Philanthropy, a Culinary Art Auction to Benefit City Harvest. The culinary masterpiece was created by renowned pastry chef, Tom Colicchio and captured through the lens of famed photographer, Diana DeLucia. In addition to this artwork being brilliant in color, it is personally signed by the chef/artist, Tom Colicchio.

Frames are a high quality painted black frame made in Italy (2.5 high by 1.5 inches on the top). The image was framed by preservation experts who have handled this piece with exceptional care. About Chef Colicchio:
Tom Colicchio, born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, spent his childhood immersed in food, cooking with his mother and grandmother. It was his father, however, who suggested that he make a career of it. At the age of seventeen, Tom made his kitchen debut in his native town of Elizabeth at Evelyn’s Seafood Restaurant.

Tom then cooked at prominent New York restaurants such as The Quilted Giraffe, Gotham Bar & Grill, Rakel, and Mondrian. During Tom’s tenure as executive chef of Mondrian, Food & Wine Magazine selected him as one of the top ten “Best New Chefs” in the United States and the New York Times awarded the restaurant three stars.
In July of 1994, Tom, along with partner Danny Meyer, opened Gramercy Tavern in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park neighborhood. In 1996, Ruth Reichl of the New York Times awarded Gramercy Tavern three stars noting that Tom was “cooking with extraordinary confidence, creating dishes characterized by bold flavors and unusual harmonies.” Tom’s cooking at Gramercy earned consistent recognition: After a three nominations for James Beard’s ‘Best Chef New York’ Award, he won it in 2000. In 2002, Craft was awarded the James Beard Best New Restaurant Award and Gramercy Tavern’s sommelier won for Outstanding Wine Service. In October 2002, Tom received Bon Appétit and the Food Network’s Award for Chef of the Year in their American Food and Entertaining Awards.

In 2006, Tom applied his years of experience to the Bravo Network’s new reality series, “Top Chef.”  Tom is a part of every episode, serving as a guiding hand to contestants and as head judge to the celebrity chef panel. The hit show will head into its third season in 2007.
