Welcome to Arucola Osteria Italiana (Family Style Italian).
A charming rustic Italian restaurant, Arucola was first opened in 1994 by world-class Chef Roberto Donna to offer quality Italian food. Now, solely owned and operated by May Bogdanovic, Arucola’s Kitchen is headed up by Chef Marcial Umana who brings a fresh and young approach to classic cooking techniques.
Why the name Arucola? Arucola was named by Roberto Donna, who was at the time keeping in the frame of his other restaurants. The basis of the name comes from Rucola, the Italian spelling of the green leaf lettuce. Arugola, which is characterized by its uniquely tangy, slightly bitter taste. An A was put before Rucola simply because he thought it looked and sounded better.
Our cuisine shows a deep respect of the Italian tradition, this made possible from the high quality of our ingredients and their freshness. Our menu changes every day allowing us to produce recipes with typical seasonal vegetables and fruits. Each dish we prepare is completely home made, from the pasta and the pizza to the bread and our wide assortment of desserts. Our pizzas and marinated roasted chicken are prepared to perfection in our wood burning oven.

Arucola is located at 5534 Connecticut Ave. NW in Chevy Chase between Morrison St. and McKinley St., just in front of the Safeway.
From Maryland we are two blocks south of the Chevy Chase circle. Parking is available in the parking lot behind CVS.
