Item Description

Located in the heart of Del Ray and North Arlington, Taqueria Poblano brings the look and feel of Mexico home to Virginia. From the color splashed walls to the Mexican tiled bar, one cannot help but feel like you have taken a trip south of the border. This is not typical American style Mexican food that becomes lost under a pool of heavy sauces and cheese. Taqueria Poblano brings you a variety of freshly made, mostly hand held food, reminiscent of the Yucatan as well as Southern California.

For starters, the taquitos (either pork or chicken) or quesadillas are an excellent choice. Guacamole (as with all the items here) is made fresh daily with real avocados. A unique taste to the Metropolitan area are the tacos "al pastor." It is thinly layered pork seasoned with adobo paste, slow cooked on a rotisserie with onions, served on a corn tortilla with cilantro and pineapple. L.A. style crispy tacos are available with your choice of chili braised shredded beef, cumin poached chicken, adobo seasoned pork or the vegetarian mix. The Baja fish taco is a Californian's dream come true, made with beer battered fresh Mahi-Mahi on a corn tortilla with spicy crema and Mexican slaw. The charcoal grill offers the tacos “al carbon,” a fajita style dish of lime marinated steak, chicken breast Sinaloan or the pork chop Oaxacan style. The grill also offers a shrimp taco served with avocado dressing and red onion escabeche. A burrito at Taqueria Poblano is a meal in itself; starting with the basic bean and cheese burrito, or by adding chili braised beef, cumin poached chicken, green chili pork or the vegetarian mix.

Occasionally, one needs to pick up a fork at Taqueria Poblano. You can dive into chili rellenos - poblano peppers roasted, then stuffed with cheese, and served over ranchero sauce…..or, try the tostada, which tops two corn tortillas with shredded beef, refried beans, lettuce, pico degallo, cheese, guacamole and avocado dressing.

To quench your thirst at Taqueria Poblano, you might try a refreshing (non-alcoholic) lime or tamarind cooler. A variety of Mexican beers are on hand as well as a homemade Sangria and Chilean wines. Margaritas are made with lime juice that is squeezed daily, as well as a variety of top shelf tequilas on hand for your sipping pleasure.

A popular addition to Taqueria Poblano’s repertoire is the Mexican Sunday Brunch, served from 11 to 2. It offers Huevos Rancheros to Breakfast Burritos.

Daily specials include Crab Quesadilla, Duck Carnitas, Chicken Molé Verde and Yucatan style fish filets.

If your roots happen to be in Mexico, California, or Texas; you will find that you no longer have to return home to find those true Mexican flavors that you have been craving!
