After twice leading the Denver Broncos to Super Bowl victories, Mike Shanahan in 2008 begins his 14th season as head coach of the Denver team. He came to the Broncos in 1995 from the San Francisco 49ers after two previous stints with the Denver team, as offensive coordinator and as quarterbacks coach. In high school in his native Illinois, Shanahan was named athlete of the year and most valuable player in both football and track. He played quarterback at Eastern Illinois University, where he earned both bachelor's and master's degrees. He later coached college football in Oklahoma, Arizona, Minnesota and Florida.
