Denver Police Chief Gerald Whitman commissioned Denver artist Dennis Anaya, who is a retired Denver police detective, to create his mask titled, "The Man in Blue," to represent the men and women who protect and serve the citizens of Denver. The sunglasses represent their anonymity while the four stars represent the police chief responsible for his men and women. Chief Whitman has been in law enforcement for 30 years, starting in Ames, Iowa. He joined the Denver Police Department in 1982 and became chief in 2000. He graduated from Western Illinois University and received degree in criminal law from the University of Colorado at Denver. Anaya majored in art in college and is working on several commissioned paintings.
