Item Description

Package includes:

1-2 anglers on a guided trip for a half day of fly fishing on Lake Powell.  Your guide will be Bill McBurney.

Stripers are a very challenging prey on a fly rod. Many of you have seen the January 2000 issue of Fly Fisherman Magazine which features Dave Whitlock. When you hook one, hang on, you are in for a "good fight." We recommend 7-8 wt. rods for the lake if you are striper fly-fishing. If you are spin fishing or bait casting, we recommend 6.5-7' medium action. Stripers can average 5lbs in the beginning or the season and later on, we may be looking at 7-10 lbs.

We take a lot into consideration in scouting for these fish. Wayne Gustaveson, who is the Chief Biologist at Lake Powell, keeps us current on patterns and locale. His information is helpful in providing a very successful day for your fishing experience. By watching moon phases, bird migration and bait fish, we can provide some great fishing for you.

The owner and operator of Ambassador Guide Services is Bill McBurney. He was born and raised in what he refers to as “the best state in the Nation: Arizona. He has been one of Arizona’s most sought after guides with his diversity in fishing many areas in Arizona from “trophy” Rainbows at Lees Ferry and now teaching Striper’s on the Fly Rod at Lake Powell. Bill has over 27 years of experience and is considered a premier guide and asset to the fisheries of Arizona by other fishing professionals. Bill refers to himself as "just a lucky "cowboy" who gets to do what he loves for a living".

Bill is licensed by the United States Coast Guard, the Department of Interior, The Forest Service and the State of Arizona as a Guide and Boat & Safety Instructor and also contracted with Yavapai College Edventure Programs, which is a nationwide program.

In 2003 Lake Powell Anglers was born  for all our Lake Powell Fishing Anglers. Bill and Judy currently live in Page, AZ where Bill has been pursing Stripers on the Fly Rod for some years. By moving to Page, he feels he can spend much more time building a "Quality Fishery" for his clients with stripers and smallmouth.

Bill has done many seminars for Stripers on the Fly Rod demonstrating the techniques of the newest fishing in Arizona: a salt water type angling experience. The Sportsman's Warehouse along with many Fly Groups have asked Bill to speak on this subject. He also offers schools for guides to bring them his knowledge of all the years of guiding throughout Arizona and Alaska.

Beginning 2006 you can see Bill on the Sportsman's Channel with his own show Ambassador Outdoors with Bill and Joe. Bill visits some awesome "Fishing Locales" for some of the best premier fishing out there. He also has been on the Outdoor Channel with Mike Pawlaski and Rhett Hall for a series on great fishing "Familiar Waters". He has featured some great streamer fishing techniques at Lee's Ferry with Mike on Familiar Waters. On the Sportman's Channel on the East Coast primarily, Sunday nights prime time, Bill and friend, World Class Angler Chris Bailey from Reel Outdoors, are chasing Big Lake Powell Stripers (top water) on the Fly.

All Ambassador Guides are licensed and have first-aid course certification. Their boats are 26' Blue Water Boats for your comfort and safety as well as first - aid equipped with up-to-date life PFD’s, ship-to-shore electronics and guard rails. They are also equipped for handicapped accessibility.
