SESSHIN: Invisible Enlightenment - Dogen's Path of Nonduality
Instructors: Roshi Joan Halifax, Sensei Kazuaki Tanahashi, Sensei Beate Genko Stolte
Jan 23-29
This sesshin explores Zen Master Dogen’s profound teachings on invisible enlightenment as the realization of nonduality and selflessness. Sesshin means to gather the heart/mind. It is an intensive meditation retreat done with others that deepens our relationship to our mind and to the world. In sesshin, the mind/body calms and settles, and the mind can become clear and open. In this way, we can experience our own true nature. Days are silent, doing sitting and walking meditation together, eating formally as a community, and working together. Sesshin provides a powerful container supporting the unification of body and mind, and our individuality with the community and the world. The sesshin includes interviews with teachers. Roshi Joan Halifax is Co-abbot of Upaya Zen Center with Sensei Beate Genko Stolte. Sensei Kazuaki Tanahashi is a Dogen Scholar.
