Item Description

You are bidding on an opportunity to have lunch with a local hero and long time supporter of Solano Community College, Command Sargeant Major Jesse Branch, United States Marine Corps, Retired.

Biography:  Jesse Branch

Jesse Branch was born in Columbia, South Carolina in the mid 30’s where he grew up and attended segarated schools. After his graduation in 1951 he joined the United States Marine Corps, he served in Korea and Viet Nam, he was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart a few of his 14 medial’s he was awarded during his career in the Marine Corps 

 

During his career in the Marine Corps he was able to attend Old Dominion University earning a degree in constructional engineering. He became the third African American to be promoted to the rank of command SgtMajor in the history of the Marine Corps, the highest enlisted rank; he retired in 1981 after 30 years of honorable service.

 

After returning to civilian life, Jesse had a desire and goal to help people especially the young people, seniors and veterans; he worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Palo Alto California from 1981 to 1989 as a recreation leader.

 

He moved to Fairfield, California in 1989 and became involved at the Solano Community College in 1990, there he became the president of the Athletic Boosters for 12 plus years, he was a member of many of the committees and boards on campus, he was especially involved with all the sports teams and players, he is still active with the athletes and coaches today, he is often considered as a roll model for many of the students, he ran unsuccessfully for the board of trustees in 2004., he was inducted into the Solano College Hall of fame in 1998 for his continuous support of sports programs.

 

Jesse is very active in the community, serving on many boards and committees. He served for 8 years on the Community Service Commission for the city of Fairfield 2 years as the chairman, served on the community block grant committee, volunteers with the after school program for the city of Fairfield and True Love Baptist Church, advisor for the city of Fairfield Youth Commission, advocate for the senior center, house manager at the Fairfield Center For Creative Arts. Reappointed to the Community Service Commission in 2005 for 3 years. Most recently he entered into the Deacon Ministry at True Love Baptist Church, a very active member in the Church, enjoys worshiping and singing on the choir.

 

Other awards and recognitions received include, Community Champion Award by the state of California Parks and Recreation Society 2002, the city of Fairfield city manager’s commendation 2003, Community Service Foundation Citizen of the Year award 2002 numerous certificates of appreciation from organizations, Awarded the Martin Luther King “ Living The Dream Award” January 13, 2007 at Solano Community College.

 

Jesse has been a resident of Fairfield since 1987; he enjoys all sports, daily walks and helping people. His favorite scripture is Psalms 121 He has a daughter and two grand children living in New York City where he loves to visit.

  • Lunch will be at Ahi Seafood and Grill at Hilton Garden Hotel, Fairfield, CA
  • If not used, lunch opportunity will expire on Ocotber 31, 2009.
