Item Description

Formed in London in 1969 by Dan Peek, Gerry Beckley, and Dewey Bunnell, sons of U.S. Air Force officers based there, the group America scored a deal with Warner Bros. in 1971, then harmonized their way to #1 in 1972 with their debut single “A Horse With No Name.” The trio’s acoustic guitar-driven debut album, America, sold more than a million, the band snagged the Best New Artist Grammy® that year, and their fame quickly spread worldwide. After their move to the States, America’s subsequent string of hits defined mellow rock in the ’70s and ’80s, but the group’s dozen-plus albums—six certified gold and/or platinum—displayed a much fuller range of the trio’s talents than the singles. After Peek’s exit in 1977 (he became a noted contemporary Christian artist), Beckley and Bunnell carried on, and the duo’s musical growth has continued to the present day, with such impressive releases as 1998’s Human Nature. Now you can celebrate three decades on three CDs with the Highway box set—the first and only collection spanning America’s entire hit-packed career, featuring singles, album cuts, and previously unreleased tracks from six different labels (including Warner Bros. and Capitol). Co-produced by the group themselves, the box’s liner notes contain extensive track-by-track comments from all three founding members, plus commentary from America (and Beatles) producer Sir George Martin.
