Dance lesson, that is!
Learn the foundation of tribal belly dance (American Tribal Style, or ATS, as made famous by Carolena Nericcio, director of Fat Chance Belly Dance) during an hour-long lesson in the privacy of your own home under the instruction of Kali Das.
Learn proper body alignment, basic movement technique and strengthening exercises that lie at the core of tribal belly dance's powerful yet 'ooey-gooey' movement. Workshop includes an introduction to Tribal Group Improvisation (TGI), a cornerstone of the ATS style.
Images of strength, fluidity and mystery swirl around tribal belly dancers from San Francisco to Tokyo, Japan. Drawing inspiration from folk as well as traditional or Cabaret belly dance, belly dance's modern-dance sister, Tribal, has become one of the world's most popular dance forms today.
Item Special Note
A shape-shifter and dancer for over 15 years, Kali Das has studied and performed several forms of dance, most notably West African, ballet, Broadway jazz styles, and the Horton Technique of modern dance. She also had the privilege of studying Russian movement and biomechanics at the St. Petersburg Performing Arts Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. Having received a full scholarship to attend NYU’s Summer Professional Musical Theatre Program in 2002,
Kali Das focused primarily on ballet and jazz training under such masters as Marilyn D’Honau and Michelle Bombaci (respectively). It wasn’t until 2006 that she discovered the bold, majestic form of American Tribal Style belly dance under the tutelage of Mimi Fontana of Manhattan Tribal in New York City. She instantly fell in love with the earthy, serpentine energy of this dance form and was captivated by its ability to channel the many faces of the Divine Feminine. She now dances full time in Boston, MA as a member of Vadalna Tribal Dance Company (www.vadalna.com)!
Kali Das is also currently in the process of receiving her Sex Educator certification through the American Association of Sex Educators, Councleors, and Therapists (AASECT). She is a certified Reiki practitioner, professional stage actress, and a member of the Screen Actors Guild.
