Item Description

Do you have a rising first grader in your family? Why not make this day special and surprise your child with an original German “Schultüte”?

The “Schultüte” (loosely translated the School Cone) is a longstanding German tradition dating back to the early 1820-ies. On their first day of first grade the children in Germany receive a big cardboard cone which is prettily decorated and in the good old days was filled with candy, chocolates and such to make this anxiously awaited first day a little bit sweeter (for more info go to: http://fanzone50.com/misc/Schultuete.html).

As you can see, these cones are pretty big and most parents “cheat” a little by stuffing the bottom half with tissue paper. Still a lot will fit inside the cone and nowadays more “sensible” gifts like Beeswax crayons, play silks, small toys, fruits, books, gift cards etc… and of course some sweets can be placed inside.

The cones available are a DIY kit, but come already put together. All that’s needed is to decorate the outside of the cone as you like using scrapbook materials, alphabet letters or numbers, pictures, flowers etc or personalize the cone with a theme like nature, fairies, sports, animals….the possibilities are endless!

Bidding on this item entitles you to the YELLOW cone only.
