Item Description
Hand blown glass pitcher by Mark Weiner
In 1990 Mark Weiner wanted to increase the diversity of shapes offered in the gallery by offering a flat pitcher. The optic twist is one of Weiner's signature techniques, but the pitchers were originally only one color. The Rainbow Design evolved from an assistant mistakingly arranging colors on the production floor, but the result was inspiring. Since refining the multiple color application technique, the Rainbow Flat Pitcher has become one of Weiner's most popular designs.
Mark Weiner has traveled throughout the United States and internationally to work for such studios as Avon Place Glass (MA), The Glass Eye Studio (WA), Ben Moore Inc. (WA), Pinkwater Glass (NY), and Daum Christallerie (France). He has worked with numerous established glass artists, including Dale Chihuly, Dan Daily, Benjamin Moore and Toots Zynsky. Weiner has a strong formal education in glassblowing, beginning his studies in both ceramics and glass at the University of Kansas in 1978, and later focusing on glass at Massachusetts College of Art. He extended his glass education as a teaching assistant for a number of glass workshops at Pilchuck Glass School and at Haystack School of Crafts. Weiner has displayed his work in galleries and specialty stores across the country, now primarily shown at the glassblowing studio and gallery that he helped found in 1992-Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks.
