This is the personal wine project of the Super Bowl-winning, renowned NFL head coach, Dick Vermeil. Vermeil’s family has French origins, having moved to San Francisco in the late 1800s, and Vermeil was raised in Napa Valley. His initial dive into the wine world is impressive. It goes against the rule-of-thumb that celebrities rarely achieve anything special in the world of wine.

2002 Jean Louis Vermeil Cabernet Sauvignon, Frediani Vineyard                             (SIGNED BY DICK VERMEIL !)

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Frediani Vineyard is stunning. Its inky/ruby/purple hue is accompanied by beautiful, pure aromas of creme de cassis, subtle wood, smoke, and licorice. Sensationally well-endowed, opulent, and voluptuous, with a 40+ second finish, this lovely Cabernet should drink beautifully for 15 or more years.  (Robert Parker)

The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Frediani Vineyard represents a top-notch Napa Cabernet. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as a sweet, chunky personality packed with oodles of blackberry, cassis, smoke, and tar characteristics. It is fleshy, mouthfilling, and savory, with no hard edges. Enjoy this impressive effort over the next 10-12 years.  (Robert Parker)

2005 OnThEdge Charbono, Frediani Vineyard                                              3 bottles

Dick Vermeil’s OnThEdge, Frediani Vineyard Charbono was mirror of the way he coached in the NFL for 16 years; a great sense of class, style and elegance but with surprising effectiveness as well.  Just think back to his 1999 Super Bowl Champion Rams, the Greatest Show on Turf, and the way they moved down the field with Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce putting on that masterful display of offensive artistry.  Put that stylishness in a bottle and you’ve got the 2005 OnThEdge Charbono.  People congratulated Vermeil afterward, myself included.  No scores we kept…this wasn’t a judging, after all, but everyone had his or her favorite, and Vermeil’s 2005 Charbono was mine.
