Item Description
This is a first edition copy of Paul Zimmerman's 1970 book, "A Thinking Man's Guide to Pro Football." What is special about this copy is that it is the copy that Mr. Zimmerman gave as a gift to then-New York Jets' coach, Weeb Ewbank.
On the inside cover of the book, Mr. Zimmerman wrote this note to Coach Ewbank:
"To Weeb
who taught me most of what I know about this game
best - Paul"
Item Special Note
Our donor relates: I bought this book from a bookstore in Miami , Ohio about five or six years ago. What I was told by the bookstore owner was that one of Coach Ewbank's children - who had possession of the book after their father's passing - was moving into a smaller home and did not have room for all of the books and things in their father's collection.
When I first got possession fo the book, I called Mr. Zimmerman and told him I had it. I asked him at the time if he would like me to send it to him because I knew how much Coach Ewbank had impacted his career as a sports writer. It probably doesn't suprise you that he simply told me to keep it for myself.
Well, I have kept it safely on my bookshelf since then. And I can think of no better time to get it back off the shelf than for this event. I'd like to donate it to the auction. I don't know how much money it would fetch, but maybe some longsuffering Jets or even Baltimore Colts fan would like to have it in their possession and contribute to this fundraiser.
