Ernest is Chief Innovation Officer for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. In this position, he serves as the architect and executive leader of the Freedom Center’s enterprise-wide integration of IT, learning, and audience engagement efforts. Ernest’s strategic management of the innovation platform and portfolio has resulted in new opportunities for business and product development, an expanded digital footprint, and legislative influence during one of the most severe downtowns economic history.

Ernest became the nation’s first Chief Innovation Officer at a major arts, culture, and educational organization in 2008. He uses this role to pioneer the use of social media and digital learning in K-12, postsecondary, and other education markets. He has led projects with industry leaders like Apple Inc, McGraw-Hill, Discovery Communications, and Promethean Learning to grow the Freedom Center’s virtual audience to more than 25 million. These projects have also resulted in the launch of several “first-of-their-kind” product solutions across major US and international markets.

Ernest is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Prince Hall Freemasons; and 100 Black Men of America. He also serves on the board of Every Child Succeeds, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing early childhood development assistance to high-risk families. In his spare time, Ernest is works to establish a foundation that provides new and refreshed computers to disadvantaged students.

Ernest studied applied project management at Villanova University and is currently pursuing his PMP certification. He has earned an MA, and completed coursework toward a PhD from The Ohio State University. Ernest also holds a MAT and AB from Miami University.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Ernest now resides in Greater Cincinnati with his wife Stacey.
