Item Description

ABOUT THE BEAR:

“The concept for this project was to create a peace statue calling for protection of bears representing our dwindling environmental resources. It is a ‘Peace Bear’.  Polar bears are an endangered species.  Changes in their environment as a result of global warming have greatly diminished their numbers.  Wars are preventing protection of natural resources. With this sculpture of a marble polar bear I want to call attention to the plight of these magnificent creatures.  Ironically the statue has been shot through in combat and overgrows with vegetation and wildlife. It represents a discrepancy between our actions and our declarations that we will protect our world for future generations.”  - Maria Parasiewicz
