Item Description

This auction is for an Ohio State basketball autographed by former Buckeye and NBA great Jerry Lucas.

Lucas led the Buckeyes to three straight NCAA Finals appearances during his career, including the 1960 NCAA Championship.  He was the Big Ten Player of the Year three times and Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year in 1961.

He made three stops in his NBA career, beginning as Rookie of the Year with the Cinncinati Royals, before moving on to San Francisco and New York, where he won an NBA title with the Knicks in 1973.  Along the way, he played in seven All-Star games, scored 14,073 points and hauled in 12,942 rebounds, 4th best in NBA history.

Lucas had become the first American basketball player to win championships at every level --- high school, college, Olympics, and the pros.  Lucas was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and was named one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1996.

United Way volunteer Doug Brake obtained the autograph when Lucas spoke at his church in Marysville this summer.
