Item Description
Benjamin John Coleman of Pawtucket, RI developed an art form called Origami Bonsai. This work, Ice Plant and Christmas Cactus Hybrid, is a superb example of both Origami Bonsai and Makigami ("roll paper" in Japanese), a procedure Ben developed for making networks of branches from recycled paper. In fact, the branches seen here were once pages of The Providence Journal! This work took more than a week to create.
The technique of Origami Bonsai enables artists to assemble origami objects into sculptures. It may be used to convey thoughts, meanings and emotions through dramatic, visually complex structures. Combined with Makigami, it's an entirely new fusion of timeless art forms.
Benjamin John Coleman is represented by JRS Fine Arts and Ocean State Artisans.
Item Special Note
This unique piece of origami is 21"high, 12" wide and 4" deep
