Item Description
The work is an oil impasto technique, done primarily with knife and consists of chunky, built up layers of color and texture. This work was created expressly for PBS and is done from one of the artist's favorite locales in South County, which shall remain the artist's closely guarded secret. :)
After a severe back injury left her disabled from her Nursing career, Susi Franco began painting as a form of pain relief. Over an eight year period, it has serendipitously become a new career.
Susi's work has earned her three international awards and her paintings currently hang in four countries. Her work was selected for inclusion in the "Extreme MakeOver: Home Edition" television show in 2008. She is represented by Royal Gallery of Providence, RI and Galerie Bel Age in the Hamptons. She maintains a strong internet presence in multiple online galleries and two websites of her work. Susi is a nationally published author and combines that with her artwork whenever possible. Her non-fiction book about her Nursing career, "Angels With Stethoscopes" has received rave reviews at Amazon.com. Susi is currently working on a re-design of the North End Café ( formerly the Classic Restaurant) where an extensive gallery of her work will be on display. She is also a participant in LandfillArt.org, which recycles automobile hubcaps into original art; the exhibit will be touring the country in the near future.
She is committed to making "Green Art" and maintains a studio in her Narragansett home, where she paints, writes, creates stained glass "paintings" on old windows and re-purposed furniture which is re-created into hand-painted, one-of-a-kind unique objet d'art.
