2922 Passing Storm – Shiras Moose

Grand Teton National Park,Wyoming

Blowing at over 40 miles per hour, winter gusts dominate the sage flats in Grand Teton National Park. Moose are frequent visitors here and this bull's coat still carries the crust of snow accumulated during his long nap, bedded down to wait out the storm. Ambling north, he'll seek out the better protection that thicker vegetation provides among willows lining the Snake River. Edition of 2500.

With his formative years spent along the banks of the Platte River hunting and fishing, Tom Mangelsen’s understanding of the natural world stems from a childhood rich in outdoor adventures. He brings that understanding to a nearly 40-year career of photographing the earth’s wild animals and wild places. He is a founding member of the “International League of Conservation Photographers” and “The Cougar Fund”. He has received awards and recognition ranging from the BBC’s “Wildlife Photographer of the Year” in 1994 to American Photo Magazines “Wildlife Image of the Year” for 2007.  His photography has appeared in magazines such as National Geographic, Audubon, and Time. He has been featured on television programs such as The Today Show, Good Morning America, and CNN’s World News. His limited edition photographs, books, posters and other products are available at thirteen Images of Nature Galleries throughout the western United States.
