Item Description
Blue Sea Shell by Allison Randall is made of earthenware clay with various glazes and oxides.
With nature as a starting point, Allison's imagination is the vehicle, negotiating the outcome of the objects she produces. She has always looked to the natural world to provide both aesthetic and conceptual information, particularly nature's ability to function as a poignant metaphor for the human condition.
Her most recent works have focused on the idea of the organic vessel, that vessel being the seashell. By creating these empty 'vessels', Allison is encouraging the viewer to contemplate the history of the object: what it may have housed, and the experience it has withstood. She uses surface to add new layers, each subsequent firing adding history to each object, linking them to imagined pasts.
