Item Description
Also known as "the Liliu," this model of Tenor 6-String was designed by Sam Kamaka Jr. in 1959 to commemorate Hawaii's statehood and pay tribute to Hawaii's last reigning monarch, Queen Liliuokalani who was a beautiful songwriter and singer.
In 1978, a Liliu was presented to the White House as Hawaii's Regional gift. But this model is not just historical, it makes exquisite music!
Beautiful book-matched koa is shown off by the super smooth semi-gloss finish. A warm, clean finish, this instrument has amazingly rich sound with its special double course strings. It is also very easy to play.

This 6 string ukulele, like the 8 string has doubled strings. In contrast to the 8, however, this particular 6 string has only the 1st (A) strings and the 3rd (C) strings doubled. This gives the 6 string a distinctly different voice than both the 8 and 4 string ukuleles. We have it strung with octave strings in the first and second positions, and with double low C strings.
Queen Liliuokalani composed what has become the unofficial Hawaiian anthem, Aloha 'Oe. With this instrument, we celebrate Hawaii's rich and diverse music and profound history, and we send GITC love to the teachers and keiki in Hawaii. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-lv7IjDsQU
