THIRD ANNUAL SEA-LEGS CELEBRITY NIGHT

FUND RAISING GALA

John S. Johnson, chairman of OpSail 2012CT will be the celebrity guest at the Third Annual Sea-Legs Celebrity Night, to be held at Mystic Aquarium on April 26, 2012., starting at 6:30.

Mr. Johnson, who also chaired OpSail’s 2000CT event is planning to take the audience “Inside OpSail” and discuss the background of this highly successful international maritime event. He brings vast experience as a participant in America’s Cup campaigns, former chairman and founding board member of the International Yacht Restoration School, and shipyard owner

The format will be conversational and the audience will have a chance to ask questions as they discuss the history of OpSail, and what it means internationally and locally

Sea-Legs, Inc. [www.sea-legs.org] offers boating experience to those boys and girls who, because of their circumstances, may not have access to the water. The Sea-Legs fleet first sailed into The Thames River in 1999 and is now based in New London. More than a thousand children have found their sea-legs aboard boats supervised by Captain Richard Lathrop, founder and CEO of Sea-Legs, Inc.

Mr. Johnson follows two distinguished sailors from this region who have offered their services in previous years to the Sea-Legs cause. 2011 featured, Clay Burkhalter, of Stonington who addressed the audience and aired MADSTREAK! a film about his transatlantic solo race.. Two years ago, Captain Bill Pinkney spoke about his maritime exploits and global solo circumnavigation.  OpSail–with its International Sail-Training emphasis is a fitting topic for this year’s event.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 or at the door for $30.

Ticket price includes access to the inside exhibits at the Aquarium as well as appetizers.

There will be a cash bar.

A large variety of Maritime Watercolor Prints will be on sale.
