30 years — Whale of an Auction!
When a college student, a cadre of community volunteers, and a handful of marine scientists decided to share the unique ocean research taking place at UCSC’s new Long Marine Lab, the public education program was born. To support these opportunities for children and families, the Whale of an Auction was launched. It’s now been 30 years since the Friends of Long Marine Lab started the auction, the marine lab has grown into a world-class teaching and research facility, and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center houses the education efforts. The Whale of an Auction has been instrumental every step of the way!
