The Atwater Park Center (California) was founded in 1968 by parents of children with health and developmental challenges.  Our program is innovative and inclusive, working with children of all abilities, from birth to 6 years old.  We are dedicated to making sure that all children have the best start in life.  Your generous donation enables the Atwater Park Center to provide our diverse student body with an engaging learning environment, small class size, highly trained teachers in a safe, enriching facility.  To learn more about the Atwater Park Center, please visit our website at www.atwaterparkcenter.org

APC is unusual in a number of ways:

  • Classrooms include Spanish-speaking, English-speaking and children from other primary languages. Teachers are bilingual or more. The children pick up many language skills and benefit from the brain development that comes with early language acquisition.
  • Inclusion of children with special needs at APC benefits everyone at APC. All children enjoy unusually high teacher ratios: 3 to 5 children per teacher!
  • Special needs and typical children develop unusually strong communication skills by playing with each other. Turnover is very low among the highly trained and experienced staff.
  • An open-door policy encourages parents to hang out at APC whenever they’d like. That helps families learn from expert staff in an informal, welcoming environment. Being parent-founded, APC retains a special culture of inclusion and a sense of opportunity.

Today, APC serves more than 70 families and is growing, thanks to support from people like you. Please help us keep this wonderful part of the East Side community strong and available for our families.
