Nothing is Wasted

Studies and Paintings by Joe Forte

About the Work:

"This is a series of studies made from the remnants of other paintings, papers gathered from my studio floor. In making these studies, I am released and free to find new avenues and pathways to explore. It is good to be reminded that everything is useful and has a purpose. This is an especially good lesson in this age of scarcity and limited resources.

In making these pieces, I had no plan. I did one a day, sometimes two. How close to the edge could I come to making junk, then resolve the piece into something provocative or appealing? I love the idea that things that are discarded and have lived beyond their usefulness can be reordered into something new.

It makes me think, is this the way to live? To realize that everything we need is within our sphere? And within our sphere, all the answers to our problems are within our grasp."

- Joe Forte

 About the Artist:

Joe Forte is a multi-disciplinary artist. He studied filmmaking at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he began developing the graphic/storytelling approach he brings to his work. As a painter, Forte studied with Los Angeles Artist Joe Blaustein and has shown widely in Los Angeles. In 2007 he had his first solo show at the Regent Gallery in L.A.'s downtown arts district, followed by a second solo show in 2008 at Bergamont Station's James Grey Gallery in Santa Monica. In addition, Forte has participated in numerous group shows and has contributed works to charitable events such as the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts Annual Art Auction and "New Day", Bellrock Media's relief benefit for Japan curated by Henry Lien of the Glass Garage Gallery.  He is currently developing a new series of globally inspired street paintings entitled "Urban Wall" and is completing work on his documentary "The Man Who Saved Ben-Hur" about the life of storyteller John Alarimo, one of the most compelling figures of the 20th Century you've never even heard of.
