Wright Charter School 4th Grade Fundraising for Furniture

We are Wright Charter School Cougars!

The students in our school are from low income families, many of them struggling to provide a safe place to live from day to day. Over 70% of our student population are on the free and reduced lunch program.  Sadly it is not unusual for us to hear that a family has been forced to move into their car or with other families with little or no warning.

Due to personal and economic challenges, parents are not always able to give academic support to their children.  Learning is challenging enough, but when parents are struggling to put food on tables, they cannot meet the academic needs of their children.  This means that we must make the most of every minute that they are in school if we want them to meet our state and national standards.

We have worked very hard to provide a warm and caring school community for our kids to come to each day in which they can learn in a stress-free and supportive environment. The personal successes that they achieve each day in the classroom help them to build the confidence they will need to persevere and prepare for successful futures!

Set in a poor community, our school has limited funds to provide our students with the tools they need for success.  This is why I am here today, fundraising for new desks for my classroom.  We currently have tables which are nice for collaborative groups but not every lesson is designed for collaboration!  Our room is also small so, with tables and no desk storage space, the space to move around is very limited.  It simply isn't conducive to a healthy learning environment!  

The desks I am wanting to buy are triangular in shape with castors on them so I can create appropriate groupings for each lesson I teach throughout the day!  How happy would my students be to know that they have such a special setup in their classroom?  In addition to being the best learning environment I can create, their motivation to do their best will be heightened and I am certain that their performance will grow with their enthusiasm for learning!
