AbilityFirst Lawrence L. Frank Center needs a new kitchen!

The kitchen at our Lawrence L. Frank Center in Pasadena must be renovated and we need your help!

Please help our participants develop important skills by increasing the accessibility of the center’s kitchen.  The kitchen is an essential part of our daily programming: participants learn to safely use equipment and utensils, from preparing a snack up to making a meal for themselves or their families.

The AbilityFirst Lawrence L. Frank Center kitchen was last renovated more than 20 years ago. It is very small and is not fully accessible to participants who use wheelchairs. It can only accommodate a group of 3-4 participants and one staff.

We need YOU! Just like the kitchen in your own home, the AbilityFirst kitchen is a center for quality time shared with others.

Participants will learn not just basic cooking skills, but also tasks like loading the dishwasher and washing dishes. Assuming responsibility for household chores gives individuals a sense of accomplishment, boosts self-confidence, and expands parent expectations.

A larger, updated and more professional kitchen will also facilitate job readiness skills for practicing food prep, food service skills and help participants to complete their individual cooking projects and goals.
