American Lyric Theater is a non-profit organization based in New York City that offers extensive, full-time mentorship for emerging operatic writers. Unlike traditional opera companies that focus on producing a season, ALT's programs focus on serving the needs of artists, developing new works, and collaborating with producing companies to help usher those works into the repertoire. Operas developed by ALT and by alumni of ALT's programs have been seen around the globe, including at Houston Grand Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Washington National Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Los Angeles Opera, The PROTOTYPE Festival, Pittsburgh Opera, Utah Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Bielefeld Opera in Germany, Serbian National Theater, and Wexford Festival Opera in Ireland!
This season, ALT is developing four new operas, and two works commissioned and developed by ALT receive their world premieres: The Life and Death(s) of Alan Turing at Chicago Opera Theater; and The Selfish Giant at Opera Saratoga.
