12x15 framed print from the Heritage Picture Postcard collection. The picture was created from a rare Victorian Birthday Greeting Card. It is an illustration that belongs with a precious group of cards documenting the world of the imagination, those picture postcards that were intended to relax the mind from everyday cares, provide a good laugh, or offer a brief escape into reverie. At the turn-of-the-century, popular artists took delight in creating imaginary worlds; worlds where tiny people grow out of flowers, where mountains have faces, and where large butterflies deliver messages. The girl's dress was made of purple silk on the original postcard. Circa 1905.
