Description

Yes, it's really 150 years old ? a Decorator and Collector?s Dream!  (You won?t find this anywhere else.)  Real 1840?s MUSEUM quality, reversible Coverlet - with a Romantic History (and perfect red/white colors).  This was a WEDDING GIFT (in 1840) and donated to H2O Planet by the original Family Members, for our Valentine?s Auction.  See photos.)   Item is an original ANTIQUE ?Jacquard Coverlet? ? a gorgeous example of Vintage Textile Artistry, showcasing intricate patterns made with a Jacquard Loom.  The Blanket / Coverlet is in MINT condition (with no marks, no stains, no fading; it appears to have never been used) ? and has been stored in Family Cedar Chests for the past 150 years.  ?Jacquard Coverlets? highlight the exceptional weaving techniques of early 19th Century America.  The CENTER SEAM confirms the authentic Age, since this was found only in Colonial Blankets created between 1830?s and 1850?s.  A ?Jacquard Coverlet? was usually created as a Wedding or Birth Gift (and often found in a young woman?s Dowrey or Hope Chest).  Those with CENTER SEAMS were woven on hand-powered looms (used between 1830 and 1855, until Weavers left to fight the Civil War.  After 1860, most textiles became factory-woven).  Coverlets with CENTER SEAMS came from the narrower HAND-POWERED Looms (which were only wide enough to produce smaller panels, requiring the Weaver to sew them together, typically with wool or linen thread, so they could cover the entire bed).  The pattern of this Coverlet confirms it was produced between 1820 and 1850.  Jacquard Coverlets were double-woven, had reversible designed, and made with 2-ply Wool and imported Madder Dyes (giving them the antique red/brown coloring, popular during the mid-1800?s).  The Coverlet is LARGE, thick, heavy, and well-made.  Size is 91? Length and 71? Width (with a red/cream, reversible pattern).  In photos, it is pictured on a king-sized bed, to help provide Size Estimates.  Coverlet can be shipped nationwide to Winning Bidder (with insurance) or picked up for FREE in Enfield, CT.  Perfect for Collectors, Historical Museum Displays, or those who love Vintage-decorated Homes.
