Dancing on the Valentine is an annual benefit concert held on the weekend before Valentinea??s Day to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. The Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Dancing on the Valentine is independently produced by Jenny George, a leukemia survivor who beat the disease at age 16 with help from the music of her favorite band: Duran Duran. When George was diagnosed at age 12, she was given less than thirty days to live, and was told that she would never have children. That was over twenty years ago. Today, she is a dedicated mother who, in addition to her day job, is committed to raising money to cure the disease and help children going through the same experience she once endured. For the 8th anniversary of the benefit, Dancing on the Valentine will include an art show and auction in addition to the musical event. The show will open at 7pm on Saturday, January 12th at Emerald City Orchids in Ballard. All proceeds from art sales will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
