Through Reach Out and Read of Greater New York, pediatricians help prepare children in the New York's neediest communities for school by prescribing free books and helping families make reading a part of their daily routine. When families participate in Reach Out and Read, parents read aloud more often at home, children show improved language skills, and they are more likely to arrive at kindergarten with the early literacy skills they need to be successful students.
