ESYO provides unparalleled music education and performance opportunities for talented young musicians in the greater Capital Region of New York State and western New England. Started as a single orchestra in 1979, today's ESYO has two full orchestras, a wind orchestra, string ensemble, two jazz ensembles, and three percussion ensembles; our membership totals about 300. Tuition scholarships are provided so that no young musician who successfully auditions is ever denied membership because of financial hardship. Additionally, ESYO provides free, private music lessons to inner-city youth in Albany and Schenectady. Collectively, ESYO's groups give about 30 public performances each season, performing in a variety of venues including the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall (known world-wide for its marvelous acoustics), Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Our top orchestra has had five international tours, the most recent tour to Asia came about from an invitation to perform at the 2012 World Expo in S. Korea. ESYO has won three awards from ASCAP for adventurous programming. A 501(c)(3) organization, ESYO is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
