Our mission is to enrich and change the lives of children and adults with disabilities through the extraordinary benefits of therapeutic riding and related equine-assisted activities. Each week, riders come from throughout the Bay Area to interact with their 1,000 pound "therapist" in a safe and secure environment and achieve goals that they never before dreamed possible. Our focus is not on their limitations, but what they can do, and the results are extraordinary. Our riders range in age from four to ninety years old and come to us from eight Bay Area counties, and represent over 60 disabilities. Giant Steps' priority is to continue to offer its services to riders regardless of financial circumstance. We charge reduced rates for all riders. While the real cost of offering a therapeutic lesson is $150, we ask for less than half% of the total cost ($60), and offer additional sliding scale scholarships to our families who are struggling with financial challenges. On average, 40%+ of our riders receive additional scholarships, with 70% of those receiving services at no cost. By subsidizing our program costs and offering a scholarship program, we ensure that no one is turned away from our services for lack of means. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that receives no state or federal funding.
