Kitty Cottage Adoption Center is a no-kill, cage-free, shelter for homeless and abandoned cats and kittens in the Greater Philadelphia area. Our mission is to more effectively facilitate adoptions by housing the cats and kittens in a cage-free, home-like shelter furnished with easy chairs and cat furniture, where people and cats can be matched up more easily than if the cats were restricted to cages. Our mission is also to increase the likelihood of lifetime retention of cats by their owners by providing counseling on cat behaviors and behavior problems. Another part of our mission is to help cat owners find their lost cats by counseling them on search and trapping techniques. Kitty Cottage has found new homes for nearly 2000 cats and kittens since opening in February 2002. There are usually about 50 to 60 cats in the shelter at any time. We accept more cats and kittens only as resident cats and kittens are adopted. Kitty Cottage is operated primarily by volunteers. We provide a place for visitors to relax and enjoy the cats, referral services for people coping with the death of a pet, counseling on feline behavior problems, and counseling on finding lost cats. We also microchip all the cats prior to adoption, so should the cats become lost cats, they can be reunited with their owners more easily. We assist people with trap/neuter/return activities for feral cats by lending them traps and recommending veterinarians who offer low-cost spay/neuter services.
