Friends of the Family is a model family resource center located in the central, North-East San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. The agency's mission is to foster strong, self-sufficient families, joyful and resilient children, and vibrant communities by providing respectful, responsive family support programs in the greater Los Angeles area. Friends of the Family's current services include parent education, child and youth development, resource and referral, family literacy programs, community development, and family counseling. Programs address the difficult problems of child abuse and neglect, family violence, family instability, school failure, and family isolation. Services are provided both at the center's centrally located facility in the mid-San Fernando Valley and outposted at a wide-range of easily accessible community locations including more than 50 elementary, middle and high schools, community centers, hospitals, parks, temples, and churches. Friends of the Family believes that every child deserves the chance to develop into a healthy and joyful young person and to that end our agency has spent over thirty years supporting and teaching parents how to create safe and nurturing homes.
