Steven Holl
Considered one of America’s most important architects, Steven Holl is recognized for his ability to blend space and light with great contextual sensitivity. He specializes in seamlessly integrating new projects in contexts that have cultural and historic importance. Founded by Holl in 1977, Steven Holl Architects has realized cultural, civic, university, and residential projects in the U.S. and around the world, most recently the Lewis Arts Complex at Princeton University (2017) and Maggie’s Centre Barts in London, United Kingdom (2017). Currently under construction is the Expansion Project for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Campus Expansion. As the principal and lead designer of Steven Holl Architects, Holl has been recognized with several international awards, including the 2014 Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award for Architecture and the AIA 2012 Gold Medal Award. He is a tenured professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture and Planning.
The exhibition Steven Holl: Making Architecture, which was on display at The Dorsky Museum at SUNY New Paltz from February 10 - July 15, 2018, is the first museum exhibition to explore this Hudson Valley master’s creative influences and his significant impact on contemporary architecture.
