Ossining MATTERS, Inc. – A Taste of Jazz 2019
Auction Ends: May 9, 2019 11:59 PM EDT

A Taste Of Jazz

Ossining MATTERS announces its 16th annual spring benefit “A Taste of Jazz” - taking place at Bethany Arts Center (BAC):  an evening of wine, cocktails, food, live music and more.  Internationally acclaimed jazz trumpeter Ingrid Jensen (Ossining resident) and her band are the featured entertainment for this festive evening.  Renowned chef, cookbook author and grill master Lex Taylor (also an Ossining resident) will oversee a team of local chefs in presenting an array of artisanal foods and beverages, including a bespoke cocktail created just for this event. As the evening begins guests are invited to participate in a silent auction while being entertained by the Ossining High School Jazz Band. The silent auction this year includes pairs of tickets to some of Broadways’ hottest shows like Tony Award-winners Hamilton and Come from Away; relaxing vacation rentals and gift certificates to many top local businesses.

The 2019 benefit returns to Ossining’s own Bethany Arts Community (BAC) after a very successful 15th anniversary benefit there in 2018, which happened to be the first benefit ever to take place at BAC. This historic building has quickly become a beloved cultural hub in Ossining and Ossining MATTERS is proud to return.

The spring benefit is Ossining MATTERS’s most significant fundraising opportunity every year, and generates the greatest contribution towards the granting program. Since its inception in 2003, Ossining MATTERS has funded over 200 grants and donated more than one million dollars to the Ossining school district. In the 2018-19 year alone, OM provided over $70,000 in grants in support of 16  programming initiatives in the Ossining schools, including:  Park School’s Exploration and Discovery at Teatown; Brookside and Roosevelt’s Destination Imagination; Brookside Bookworms; Claremont’s Jump with Jill assemblies; the Roosevelt Library redesign and upgrade, AMD’s Author Visitation Week and OHS’ Greenhouse and Robotics and Interactive Ecology programs, a field trip to Washington D.C., as well as a new mural, among others.

The mission of the Ossining MATTERS Education Foundation is to support and enrich the learning opportunities for each school and for all children in the Ossining School District. All funds raised are used to develop and support programming in the areas of academics, cultural arts and athletics to ensure that each student realizes his or her fullest potential.

Testimonials from some who have benefited from Ossining Matters grant for the Morning Math Program at Claremont School:

The math program has been very beneficial. I've been extremely proud of how my students have strengthened their math skills since our first session. More importantly, I've seen their love for math increase and their confidence levels grow tremendously. – Claremont School - Morning Math Program teacher Mike Mery

I needed help with my regrouping and now I know how to do it the right way. I liked the activity when we got to use spinners to create big numbers and solve the problems. – student Jayden S.

What I like about this math program is that I learn about math, have a great teacher, and I love to be with all of my friends. – student Jislaine C.
