Located on active prison grounds in Jackson, MI, Cell Block 7 offers visitors a unique museum experience. You won’t have to imagine prison life; you’ll feel it as you inhabit the same cells and walk the same corridors as some of Michigan’s most hardened criminals.
See what it’s like to spend some time on the inside - this will be as close to prison as you'll ever want to get!
State Prison of Southern Michigan was completed in 1934 and soon became the largest walled prison in the world with over 5,000 inmates. Until 2007, Cell Block 7 was an active part of the penitentiary.
Explore the cell block to find historic artifacts, prisoner artwork, and rotating exhibits detailing events such as prison businesses and great escapes, including those by helicopter and tunnels!
