Be a movie star for the day.
Revel in the limelight with a walk-on role as an extra in a Hollywood production movie, with full backstage access for a day. How is a Hollywood movie made? What happens day-to-day before it hits the big screen? And what’s it like to be an extra, right in the thick of the action? This is your chance to find out, as you play a crucial role on a set overseen by top Hollywood producer, Stephen Israel.
"I absolutely loved my day as a Hollywood film extra. After my early-morning wardrobe consultation, Stephen placed me on set in a bar scene, with a fake whisky on the rocks, right next to the stars’ table. Whenever the cameras rolled, the lead actress sashayed past and a friendly co-extra and I were captured in silent conversation. Multiple takes allowed me to check out the smooth-running teamwork it takes to make a movie. Extra-cool: A lively bar-fight scene, candy-glass beer bottles smashing (over and over); listening in as the stars expertly reworked their lines; and the camaraderie on and off set. Busy as he was, Stephen took great care of me, introduced me to the directors, and shared insider tips and stories about the movie business. And I’ll never forget how my long and fascinating day ended: with a late-night punch-up in a dark alley, viewed through the camera lens, of course!" -Sophie Miodownik (St. Mary's, 1984–88), who successfully bid for this prize at the 2017 Gala.
